What happens on the day of the test?

For the one hour test you will drink a sweet liquid containing a measured amount of glucose.  It is best to drink the liquid quickly; you are given 5 minutes to drink the liquid.  You will have your blood drawn at the end of the hour.  You will then be asked to remain in the office during your test period.

For the three hour test a blood sample will be obtained prior to drinking the sweet liquid containing a measured amount of glucose to obtain your glucose baseline.  It is best to drink the liquid quickly; you are given 5 minutes to drink the liquid.  You will then have blood draws collected at intervals of 1, 2 and 3 hours.
