Pregnancy Timeline

First office appointment is scheduled for 8-10 weeks gestation. This visit will consist of the following

• Weight check.
• Blood pressure check.
• Urine collection: urine will be sent for testing for urinary tract infections and drug screening. It will also be dipped every visit to make sure there is no protein or sugar in the urine. These are indicators of more serious problems in the pregnancy.
• Comprehensive health history.
• Doctor exam: pelvic exam, vaginal cultures, possible pap smear, and measuring of the uterus and a breast exam.
• Doctor will discuss any optional testing that will be offered during the pregnancy.
• There will be an ultrasound to confirm heart tone and due date.
• Finally you will have blood work done, including full sexually transmitted infection panel: Complete Blood Count (CBC), Rubella Screen, Hepatitis B screen, Blood Typing and antibody screen, RPR (syphyllis test), HIV test, Sickle Cell Anemia screen (if you are African-American).
• Consult with OB nurse will be two weeks after initial visit. She will review all labs performed at first visit, and discuss safe medications in pregnancy, foods you should and should not eat, discuss vitamins and answer any other questions you may have.

12 Week Appointment

16 Week Appointment

• Offer second trimester screen (blood work only)

18-20 Week Appointment

• Anatomical Ultrasound (if baby co-operates you will be able to find out the sex of your baby at this visit).
• Only three people are allowed in the room and videotaping is not allowed

• Must have full bladder for this appointment for better viewing of the baby.

22 Week Appointment

• 1 hour glucose screen to assess for diabetes: please eat as you normally do, this is not a fasting test.

30 Week Appointment
